3D laser scanning of two cooling towers with subsequent target-actual comparison of cooling tower radii every 2 metres
Scope of work:
Use of 3D laser scanning to model 2 cooling towers (each 135 m high) and determine if any deformations are present. This was to detect the actual radii of the inner and outer cooling tower shells every 2 metres and compare the values with the target radii. The required accuracy of the calculated radius was 1 mm.
The comparison showed an average deviation between the actual and target radii of approximately 2 cm. The required accuracy in the calculation of the radii was obtained by selecting an appropriate instrument (tachymeter with scan function) and the use of complex evaluation procedures.
