New construction of the FLI Friedrich Löffler Institute on the Isle of Riems

Riems, Germany

Project:

Two buildings measuring 230 m and 210 m in length, each with one or two floors below ground and three floors above ground, were built on the Isle of Riems. The complex is secured by a security system similar to those used in a nuclear power station using a so-called Box-in-Box-System, where the most sensitive areas are located inside the buildings. Laboratories were built with the highest level of security in the world; L4. One of the most modern animal research complexes in the world was therefore founded in 2011.
